Turtles could have been light, airy creatures, filled with win instead of repulsive organs.  Nature has a way of fulfilling expectation.  Birds are light and therefore skittish.  Turtles are plodding and heavy.  They carry their wind in their neurons, leave it behind in their steps, in the arcs of their water-motions as they dart toward prey.  Their wind is like the wind of those who work in offices and factories: purely hypothetical, green, just beyond the periphery.
